The Blog Rounds submission updates and guidelines

, Bone MD at Tuesday, March 04, 2008
I answered most of the questions regarding "The Blog Rounds" medical blog carnival project in my previous post, The Blog Rounds: Blogging through Medicine and Beyond. Quite a number of fellow medical bloggers contributed posts and hosted this blog carnival. And TBR is continually expanding!
I am inviting all interested MDs, medical bloggers and everyone else who can write about medicine and issues related to it, to join TBR. E-mail me kokegulper[at]yahoo[dot]com, or any of the blogger already in the carnival, introduce yourself briefly, your blog and subscribe to The Blog Rounds. I am targeting Em Dy's list of physicians who blog, here. I'm near stalking them already.
If you want to join here are the steps you need to do first:
- Introductory post. Write a post in your blog (like this one, by Prudence MD), regarding your intention of joining The Blog Rounds. You may include suggestions and comments about TBR in that post. Just a post. Make an announcement of that post in your blog and link back to the The Blog Rounds page here. I wrote my reasons for starting TBR in my previous post. You can take a cue on the format of your intro post there.
- Tag two other MD blogger or medically inclined blogger who write about medicine( or MDs who write about non-medical stuff) and invite them to join the carnival. It is not necessary though, that you get them to join us (although this will be a desirable outcome).
- Put any of these icon-links on your main page and link back to TBR.
- Join and submit articles to the ongoing blog rounds. Archives and hosting schedules are listed here.
- Subscribe to TBR yahoo groups using your email here.
Here are the guidelines for both the host and contributing bloggers joining TBR. Note that these guidelines can be changed depending on the sentiments of the majority contributors. Suggestions will be highly appreciated:
If you got more questions, or if you want to host TBR, email me or comment below! I'm continually looking for hosts blogger!
So what do we get out of this?Blog traffic maybe?Money from ads? Maybe. But the whole idea is about sharing our experiences and thoughts (rather than stare at the ceiling of our clinics) to anyone willing to read it.
(Updated: 7/2/08)
- Call for articles for the upcoming TBR edition should be posted on his/her blog by midnight of Tuesday on the first week.
- Blog articles for carnival are due by 11:59 PM PST Monday two weeks after the "call for articles" post.
- The Blog Rounds round up of posts will posted on the host's blog, 7AM Tuesday two weeks after the call for article post.
- Send the host- blogger for that edition (schedules are listed here) an email containing the title and url link to your post.
- One entry per blogger.
- Recent posts between 500 and 1000 words are preferred
- Posts are to be written for a general audience and may be medical or non medical, depending on the category or topic chosen by the host blogger.
- The host blogger has the sole authority and responsibility of choosing the topic, announcing them, receiving the contributions, proof reading it, and posting them as he/she deemed fit for his/her topic of choice.
- Issues (maybe political) affecting the Philippine Healthcare System
- Practice of Profession
- Business of Medicine
- Other things the health care professional do non-medically, like travel, sports, hobbies, blogging and whatnots)
- The rest of the topics not mentioned above (which makes it practically everything outside your steth.)
If you got more questions, or if you want to host TBR, email me or comment below! I'm continually looking for hosts blogger!

questions lang po-
do the weekly carnivals need to be centered on a theme, eg Food Places You Recommend or Most Memorable Patients? or will the carnivals be like a one-stop post a la table-of-contents-of-pinoy-MD-posts-in-the-blogosphere? and am i correct in my understanding that the carnival host for the week sets the theme? if s/he does set the theme, when will the list of themes be released?
i ask this po to clarify this next question: do the entries we send the host for the week need to be our latest/most current blog entry or can we dig up old posts to fit the weekly theme? or do we have to try at least one entry to fit the theme? or can we just send any entry that we wish to highlight regardless of that post's age?
sorry daming tanong! hehe
PS- can't host this march, sorry! medyo hindi ako tao, as it is the end of the school year and daming admin/paper work to be accomplished =0
You're questions and comments are most welcome Doc Ian.
Yes, each week a host blogger will be selected from the pool of contributor MD bloggers. The host blogger will then select a theme (whatever it will be) for his/her version of TBR, to be hosted on hi/her blog. This will be announced ahead of time, on my blog and by the past immediate host on his/her site, on the edition's publication date. Contributing MD bloggers will then submit "articles" via post links to the email of the host blogger. The host blogger will choose the articles base on his/her own criteria and relevance to his/her theme. This will be then published on the scheduled date, be introduced, creatively described, commented and linked (not just a TOC)to the contributor's blog.
We prefer (but not limit only ) new or recent posts, although I'm sure there will be great post and gems in your archives. So this will be your call and the hosts blogger prerog. Bottom line, any post that fits the theme is ok.
Hope this helps ian. Please don't hesitate to ask more questions if you need some clarification pa. Many thanks.
I'm looking forward to your contribution then, but first, i need to link to your intro post about the TBR. Thanks again!
Hi Bone MD,
Thanks for the visitation and the invitation. I'm not very confident that my writing is good enough to join a blog carnival but what the heck? The practice would be a good exercise in writing, so count me in. :-)
@Ness, you are most welcome!
I'm updating the blogger list to include you. You might want to host the TBR in your blog in the future, please tell me.
And don't forget to write your intro post and link to TBR!
No need to stalk me, Doc Remo. I'm in, too. :)
Yay! Finally! Now I'm off to creating my intro post for this blog rounds :-) I'll be using my health blog for this rounds.

I'm LOL at the "staring at the clinic ceiling" phrase. I do that at the clinic and in the hospital sometimes! Especially when overly tired or very bored. Hehe.
By the way, my intro post about the TBR is up at http://health.tesstermulo.com. Yey!
@megamom, thanks! I'm including you in the list now! Wow! Dami na natin!
I look forward to your intro post regarding TBR. Host TBR in your great blog!
@Prudence, really sorry about your last name, I did change it na and thanks for correcting me.
Thanks for the great intro post! Read it na.
I am through staring at my clinic walls I could memorize the location of my diplomas and business permits! NOw I'm thinking of adding a TV on the ceiling, para di na ako kelangan naka upo watching TV pag bored na! LOL
@Bone MD:
Re: my last name, no problem. :-)
i think it's great... try ko to post in my blog about this tomorrow or the next day. :)
i've been thinking about the whole monetizing thing, and as tempting as it is, i don't think i'm up for it... mapepressure lang ako, and when that happens, it might no longer be fun. besides, i like rambling! i'm just glad may mga nagbabasa kahit papano. :)
i hope we get more pinoy doctors interested. personally, i really find it fun and informative when i read about the medical experiences of colleagues. i also get feedback from my readers na they enjoy reading about medical stuff from a real medical perspective but in layman's language. let's start shattering some myths! it's time that, as prudence says, people realize that doctors are humans, too.
Here's to hoping this project will be a success!
Hi doc bone,
i would love to join.
but i'll check the details soon! it's exam period already... ciao!
Natoxic ako sabra dami ng kailangan alamin at basahin. Give me until after holy week doc at makaka-catch up din ako hehe. Sorry, slow conductors gamit. :)
Kaya ba ng powers ko maghost kahit di ako techie?
doc, count me in. its a pleasure to join the blog rounds but warning though, im not a prolific writer nor a good one pud, ayaw lang ko buhata ug host kay ma-ning-ning ko ana.
@Doc Claire, we're glad we have you in TBR also. I'm pretty sure a lot of readers will enjoy your posts, medical or other wise.
About the monetizing thing, I'll leave that each and everyone's preferences. Bottom line, we get good posts we enjoy to read and share.
@dak you're welcome. Come back soon for your intro posts and articles! Good luck sa exams!
@Merrycherry, we'd be waiting for your intro posts too and your articles.
@ Doc tess, your part of this TBR now, and I'm sure we'd be very much interested in your piece of work. Hosting is easy. It's just like introducing the articles you choose and putting a link on your blog. thats it!
And may I remind you all about your intro posts! and I've already posted the call for submission of articles for first ed TBR.
Doc, I'm sorry but which small TBR widget were you referring to? And how in the world do I add that to my blog?
:))
I'll be watching from the sidelines muna... Audit na next week!!!
@Merry Cherry: The link icon that says The blog rounds with letters in avocado green. Go to your page layout in blogger, add a page element where ever you want (sidebar preferred) then add an HTML/Java script box. Once you have the pop up window open, paste the link and then save.
hi! i'm not sure i can do funny - probably not! - but i have an idea i'll be working on. expect a last minute post, though! :)
my introductory post can already be found over here.
Hi, I've been meaning to leave a comment for the longest time. Anyway, I've been reading the guidelines and the previous editions and I'd love to join. Will work on my intro post. :)
@midnight rainbow, you are very much welcome to join TBR. I've been silently stalking your blog too. We'd be looking forward to your intro post and TBR entries. You might want to host the TBR sometime, please tell me when. Thanks

Hello, BoneMD! Ang galing naman! You have finally gathered and started something big here. Finally, we have something we can call our own. Thanks for firing this up.
I have linked (ito na din ang intro ko) to the 3rd edition of TBR in my late post yesterday.
I look forward in hosting one of this TBRs. That would be exciting!
More power and may this go on forever!
good day po!
i am a 4th year ob-gyn resident from cebu. i was invited by ligaya (of "the adventure called life") to join TBR and i am honored. i'm having a little difficulty following the instructions on joining...please help out? how do i tag the 2 other bloogers and which page should i link to using the logo?
salamat po!
@wotwot, tagging two other medical blogger to join TBR is optional. The important thing is you sort of put an intro post about joining the blog rounds and then join the on going blog round edition. Check who is the upcoming host and read his/her blog for article call.
You may also join TBR egroup(theblogrounds@yahoogroup.com) to get updates fast.
Welcome!
